The Mufti of Uganda Sheikh Shaban Mubaje has deviated from an earlier position and urged Muslims to get money under the Parish Development Program-PDM to develop themselves.
Earlier on, Muslim leaders had expressed skepticism in urging their followers to participate in the PDM program after raising concern that the program involves returning the funds extended to each beneficiary with interest, which is against the teachings of Islam.
However, today in his message to the hundreds of believers who turned up for the Eid el-Fitr prayers at the Gaddafi National Mosque at Old Kampala, Mubaje said that after interacting with President Museveni, he is alleged to have informed them that the money given out under PDM to the Muslims is not a loan but rather a donation.
It’s upon this that Mubaje called on Muslims to partake of this money and they also develop themselves.
The Mufti went ahead and urged Muslims to be agents of peace wherever they are and also castigated people who are fueling conflicts all over the world especially in Gaza, where people have been dying daily since tensions escalated between Israel and Hamas from October 2023.
