The Roman Catholic Church in Uganda has received UGX 35 million as financial support from MTN-Uganda for the preparations of this year’s Uganda Martyrs’ day celebrations at Catholic shrines – Namugongo.

 

While receiving the support, Msgr. Charles Kasibante, the Vicar General of Kampala Archdiocese said that preparations to mark the Martyrs day celebrations are so important and requires a lot of resources for support hence calling for everyone’s involvement for the success of the pilgrimage.

 

Msgr. Kasibante received the money via a cheque on behalf of the Catholic Church from Michael Ssekadde, the General Manager Human Resource in MTN-Uganda at Lubaga Cathedral on Friday.

 

This year’s Martyrs day celebrations that is estimated to cost over UGX 1billion is to be led by the Fort Portal Diocese, under the theme; “Baptized and Sent to Witness Christ with the Love an Hope”.

 

In her supplementary request presented by the State Finance Minister in Charge of General Duties Henry Musasizi to the Budget Committee of Parliament, the government approved UGX 617.9bn on Thursday evening that includes Shs1bn allocated to Fort Portal Catholic Diocese and Shs600m for the Church of Uganda Greater Ankole diocese to facilitate the preparations for Uganda Martyrs day celebrations at both the Catholic and Anglican shrine Namugongo.
