A section of Members of Parliament from fishing communities have petitioned the Constitutional Court to declare the recently passed Fisheries and Aquaculture Bill into law.

This comes after President Yoweri Museveni failed to pass the bill within 30 days as stipulated by the constitution after parliament passed it on 18th Oct 2022.

MPs including Bbaale County MP Charles Tebandeke and Buvuma District Woman MP Suzan Nakaziba say that the bill has overstayed yet the fishermen continue to suffer the brutality and mistreatment from the UPDF enforcement team on lakes.

The MPs also demand that the constitutional court directs the speaker of Parliament and the parliamentary commission to recall the bill from the president and declare it a law.

The Fisheries and Aquaculture bill was first passed in May of last year and later resent back to parliament for reconsideration on the advice of President Museveni which was again in October last year passed.
