The Shadow Minister for Sports Geoffrey Kayemba Solo has asked the Government to seize the chance given to the country to host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals to develop the country’s sports infrastructures.

This is after the Confederation of African Football-CAF on Wednesday announced the Pamoja joint bid by Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania as the winner of the rights to host the 2027 African football showpiece.

Kayemba who is the Bukomansimbi South MP says if Uganda had invested in sports, Uganda would not bid with other East African countries to host the AFCON.

He has warned the Government to tame the corrupt vultures that may use this opportunity to swindle public funds now that the Government has to rehabilitate and build new stadiums.

Meanwhile, the Government Chief Whip Hamson Obua has congratulated the political leadership of the three hosting countries saying this is an opportunity for the community to invest in sports infrastructure that will enable us in the future to even host bigger tournaments like the World Cup.
