The Shadow Minister for Foreign Affairs Muwada Nkunyingi has asked the government to intervene and rescue Ugandan domestic workers stranded in the Middle East.

Over 4000 domestic Ugandan workers are reportedly stranded in the countries of the United Arab Emirates-U.A.E, Saudi Arabia and Dubai due to lack of visas, passports and work permits.

Muwada who is also the Kyadondo East Member of Parliament says that most of these stranded Ugandan domestic workers are girls who were taken by labor companies from Uganda and later abandoned after the expiry of their contracts and they are likely to face prosecution once intercepted by law enforcers.

He says the victims narrated to him that labor companies confiscated their passports on reaching their destinations of work, subjected to torture by their employers with no hope and concern from the labour companies that took them.

Now, the MP appeals to the government to repatriate the victimized workers using the national carrier Uganda Airline who are apparently sleeping on streets, in congested rooms and others are in Dubai detention centers where they are kept under poor sanitation, lack of food, health facilities and others.
