The Eastern region deputy president of the National Unity Platform (NUP) also serves as the Member of Parliament (MP) elect of Manjiya County John Baptist Nambeshe has termed the letter of President Museveni which called for the extension of speakership elections as cowardly.

Last week Museveni wrote to parliament through the clerk extending the elections of the speaker and deputy speaker to 24th of this month contrary to the earlier set date of 21st next week.

The letter came hours after Kadaga responded to Prime Minister Dr Ruhakana Rugunda’s request for postponement of the election to allow political parties’ caucuses.

Speaking to Nambeshe, he said the National Resistance Movement (NRM) is applying delaying tactics aimed at stifling and scheme out some powerful opposition aspirants who have put out a challenge on the ruling party candidates unlike before.

Meanwhile, some MPs think the extension shouldn’t be very long to avoid unlikely circumstances that may need parliamentary interventions and to avoid vacuum in leadership.
