Kyadondo East Member of Parliament Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu has been granted cash bail of One million shillings by Buganda Road Grade Magistrates Court Esther Nahilya.

The sureties are Dr Miria Matembe the former Minister for Ethics and Integrity, National Resistance Movement Members of Parliament- MPs Mbwatekamwa Gaffa and Oshabe Patrick Nsamba executed a noncash bond of10 million shillings each.

Nahilya cautioned Kyagulanyi against engaging in unlawful demonstrations or else his bail will be cancelled.

Trouble started on Monday April 29th when MP Kyagulanyi was arrested from Mulago roundabout as he headed to CID Kibuli to record a statement but police took him to Nagalama where he was later moved to Buganda Road court and charged of disobedience of statutory duty.

The charges date way back in 2018 when Kyagulanyi and his brother Fred Nyanzi Ssentamu, David Lule, Edward Sebuwufu and others still at large, allegedly disobeyed lawful orders by holding an illegal protest contrary to section 116 of the Penal Code Act.

Bobi Wine, held a demonstration in downtown Kampala against the Shs 200 excise duty for use of Over the Top (OTT) services (commonly known as social media tax), saying it was unfair since Ugandans were already paying for taxes on airtime.

Kyagulanyi has gone on record to have launched the use of Video Conferencing judicial system as a suspect but pleaded not guilty and applied for bail which has been granted.

Court has now directed the Prosecution to share the evidence they intend to use in the trial of Kyagulanyi and his co-accused to their lawyers before May 23rd, 2019.
