The Health Minister Dr Jane Ruth Aceng has requested for 162million US dollars to purchase 27million dozes of Covid-19 vaccines to vaccinate all Ugandans.

Dr. Aceng was on Thursday afternoon tabling before the floor of parliament the Ministry’s proposal of procuring more Covid-19 vaccines where she added that the 18million dozes donated by COVAX aren’t enough for all Ugandans.

On Wednesday, government started the journey of vaccinating as estimated 22 million people that provide essential services and are high risk of exposure, including the elderly people, health workers, teachers and soldiers against Covid-19.

Uganda requires at least 45 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines to vaccinate the 45 million people in the country and extra doses to cater to the refugee population according to what Ministry of Health has been giving out to the media.

Meanwhile the Health experts have warned people who are getting vaccinated against COVID-19 not to lose the fight saying they can be incubating vessels for more severe variant strains.

Dr Monica Musenero an epidemiologist says that data from elsewhere is showing them that the mutants that these vaccinated people can host are more severe and spread faster even affecting groups such as young people that are currently not being severely affected by the circulating strains of the virus.

Musenero who is also the presidential advisor on epidemics advises that Ugandans should be aware not to experience what is happening elsewhere with vaccination citing Israel that is battling a rise in infections with the new strain among children.

Already Sembabule district has received 3,520 doses of covid19 vaccines. According to Justine Nanyonjo, the Sembabule district covid19 vaccination coordinator and the vaccination that is yet to start will be conducted from health centres at Lwemiyaga health centre III and Ntusi, Lwebitakuli and Matete and Sembabule Health Center IV among other sites.
