Kampala Capital City Lord Mayor, Erias Lukwago has tasked the Members of Parliament (MPs) sitting on the Parliamentary Committee on Commissions, Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises (COSASE) to interest themselves in the inflated costs of different projects of KCCA.

While appearing before COSASE on Tuesday, Lukwago alleged that many KCCA projects costs have been inflated hence causing a very big loss to this country and wastage of taxpayers’ money.

Lukwago further noted that KCCA is giving billions of money to UMEME, national water and sewerage cooperation and communication companies to relocate utilities in the areas where KCCA constructs roads which are illegal because the law says that the owners of those companies are responsible for relocating of their utilities in any area the road is going to pass.

Lukwago also accused the authority of awarding contracts to Chinese companies that are never on ground but supervise the works of road construction on zoom which has made them do substandard works.

In reply, the Executive Director KCCA Dorothy Kisaka refuted the accusations by Lukwago saying that at the time the City Executive Committee wanted to interface with the company owners they had travelled back to China.

The committee chairperson who is also Nakawa West MP Joel Ssenyonyi later Directed KCCA Executive Director to furnish it with the documents talking about all the roads they are working on before the close of business on Tuesday next week.
