Kampala Lord Mayor, Erias Lukwago has said he has not joined Forum for Democratic Change as a political schemer.

Lukwago was officially unveiled as a member of the FDC at a function held at the party headquarters in Najjanankumbi. Lukwago said he had joined the party at his own will without being forced.

Lukwago says he was at peace with his conscience joining FDC a party that has been with him in good and bad times, in sickness and health, in swallowing teargas and eating watermelons.

Lukwago noted that the decision to choose the party flag bearer will depend on what the FDC constitution says.

Lukwago said whereas he was a life member of the Democratic Party that will always remain in history but also part of his curriculum vitae in the politics of the country.

At the same time the Democratic Party President Norbert Mao was holding a press conference at City house where he said departing members Betty Nambooze and Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, should always be grateful of the party’s contribution to their political careers.

After unveiling Lukwago Mukono Municipality MP, Betty Nambooze and Rubaga North MP, Moses Kasibante, both members of DP, are alleged to officially be unveiled as members of the FDC soon.

While addressing the press about the current political situation in the country, Mao said that as a party, they are very proud to have built the profiles of these members who are now considered to be movers and shakers in Uganda’s politics but they are free to contribute to the country either within DP or from elsewhere unfortunately some of them have been at the forefront of demonizing DP and blackmailing its leaders.”
