The spokes person of NUP Joel Ssenyonyi has confirmed the arrest of their Vice president Dr. Lina Zedriga in Oyam district.

Ssenyonyi says no reasons are given for Dr. Lina’s arrest including many other party members who are yet to be known and are said to be detained in Oyam police station.

However Ssenyonyi says this is a sign of intimidation from police to whip off NUP supporters but they are determined for change.

Today NUP presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi held his first rally in Oyam, followed by Apach and lastly in Lira.

This came after President Yoweri Museveni condemned large gatherings during political campaigns describing those who encourage them as enemies of the people and will be arrested.

Museveni made the remarks while addressing NRM party leaders from Kwania, Oyam, Kole, Apac and Apac municipality at Omili Primary School in Apac District.

The President was responding to concerns raised by Sam Engola, the outgoing NRM Vice Chairperson Northern Region who earlier said that the NRM party supporters should be allowed to stand on the roadside and wave to their candidate.

On Monday, the Ministry of Health revised the Standard Operating Procedures – SOPs allowing politicians to gather masses of not more than 200 people from 70.

Nancy Kalembe

Presidential candidate, Nancy Kalembe the only female candidate in the race has started on the wrong side with the police in Jinja who blocked her from holding a procession in Jinja town as she moved to launch her manifesto at Kakindu stadium this afternoon.

As Kalembe was waving to her supporters who were standing on the roadside ahead of her manifesto launch, police officers attached to Field Force unit blocked her along Main Street.

Police officers led by the Jinja Central Police Station Commander, Ahmed Hasunira told journalists that, the Electoral Commission has not communicated to them whether any presidential candidate was to hold such activities within the city.

Kalembe earlier on told journalists that, she had cleared all the necessary steps and is shocked to face hurdles ahead of her much-anticipated manifesto launch.

Fred Mwesigye

Meanwhile one of the Independent presidential candidates Pr. Fred Mwesigye has appealed for financial assistance from well-wishers to support his transport expenses.

Mwesigye has told our reporter that he had set aside 3 billion shillings to aid his campaigns but in his first week of media campaigns he has almost spent all the money because scientific campaigns via media are expensive  via privately own media stations and now plans to launch his manifesto in form of a song just because of lack of funds.

Mwesigye however says one of the reasons that inspired him to stand for the presidency was the spiritual call plus plans to carter for the future of Ugandans.

He also emphasized the need to invest more money in agriculture since many Ugandans engage in subsistence farming thus vowing to use Ugandan embassies in different countries to look for market for her produce.
