St Joseph’s Hospital Kitovu in Masaka district is mobilising for at least 900 million shillings to procure a modern Computerized Tomography-CT scan machine.

Doctor Alfred Lumala, the Hospital Administrator says they intend to procure the modern medical equipment to enable them to internally offer the service and save the patients the burden of traveling long distances to facilities outside the greater Masaka sub-region that have the equipment.

The CT scan machine is used to conduct inter and intramuscular diagnoses such as muscle disorders, bone fractures, and tumors among others.

But Doctor Lumala reveals that all the cases that require services of a CT scan in affordable government facilities are being referred to the National Referral Hospital Mulago in Kampala or Mbarara regional hospital which is a distance away from Masaka.

In a month, the hospital registers at least 16 patients that require CT scan services and they are uncertain whether the cases proceed to seek the services upon being referred when advised to do so.

Reverend Father Emmanuel Ssekamanya, the Assistant Coordinator of Health Services in Masaka Diocese says that they have launched fundraising drives through which they intend to procure the equipment.
