Police in Kampala Metropolitan has disclosed that a jerrycan of petrol left in one of the kiosks was the source of fire that gutted Kigungu landing site in Entebbe Municipality, Wakiso district on Sunday night.

 

Yesterday, more than 100 people living at Kigungu landing site were left homeless after parts of the place that is situated between a UPDF garrison command base and Entebbe International Airport gutted by fire.

 

Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson says that they found out that the fire sparked off from the kiosk on which a jerrycan of petrol illegally sold, was kept.

 

He says that about 200 temporary structures in that area were destroyed though nobody was injured but the owner of the kiosk is on wanted though on the run.

 

Owoyesigyire however cautions the resident of Kigungu landing site to stop selling illegal fuel and avoid keeping petrol in jerrycans and in those structures.

 

In a related development, traders in Marchi D village in Busia Municipality are counting losses after fire gutted the building in which they were operating around 2am last night and Property worth millions of shillings was destroyed mainly goods in shops.
