Kampala Capital City Council – KCCA has demanded explanation over the ongoing collection of a sum Shs60, 000 per boda boda rider in Kampala purportedly going for Psychiatry examination.

This is after the Councilor Moses Kataabu of the National Unity Platform, raised a matter of concern over the ongoing exercise of compelling boda boda riders to undertake psychiatric examination before they can be allowed to operate within Kampala, stressing that; “a dubious exercise is taking place at Kira Road Playground in Kamwokya, where an unknown group is fleecing boda boda cyclists of their hard earned finances under an exercise which has not been sanctioned by Kampala Capital City Authority”

This has been contained in a Press Statement released this Thursday, where it has been revealed that a group calling itself “UDISA” is soliciting 60,000shs from each boda boda rider, ostensibly for psychiatric examination, training and some other examinations.

The press statement goes ahead to demand the KCCA Executive Director, C.E.C and the Engineering and Technical Service Standing Committee that’s responsible for this sector to treat the matter with the urgency it deserves, since Council has never sanctioned the same.

Relatedly, the Chairperson of the Engineering and Technical Service Standing Committee Councilor Faridah Nakabugo has already given the matter attention, where she has written to Boda Boda cyclists operating within Kampala informing them that a meeting of the committee and boda boda riders is being organized at City Hall, and would requested them to attend when the said meeting is scheduled to get a clear picture of the ongoing exercise.
