A report by the Office of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions –DPP has indicated that in the past month of February, Kampala led in trafficking of children.

Addressing a news conference on today at Naguru, Agnes Igoye, and the Deputy Coordinator for Prevention of Trafficking in the Ministry of Internal Affairs said that during the period, 37 cases were reported and offenders taken to court and that most of victims were taken for sexual exploitation and forced labour.

She says of these cases, 9 were in Kampala, four in Entebbe, three in both Kabale and Mbale and two in Mityana among other areas.

Igoye says some of the children are kidnapped while going or returning from school and sexually exploited.

She adds that in some cases, parents are also involved in trafficking of their own children.

She notes that at the Malaba border with Kenya, children are used for smuggling goods into Uganda but warned that all this is criminal.
