In the effort to fight crime in the Kampala Metropolitan area, Police have arrested an alleged habitual robber, who is also a gang leader and recovered suspected stolen items.

 

The suspect is identified as Charles Yiga from Ndeeba in Rubaga division Kampala City and was arrested in an intelligence-led operation carried out by the Katwe Police Station since Tuesday this week.

 

The Deputy Police Spokesperson in Kampala Metropolitan Area, Luke Owoyesigyire says that the operation was carried out in areas of Ndeeba, Namasuba and Salaama where the officers were also led to a recovery of Narcotic substances and suspected stolen items.

 

He adds that during interrogation, Yiga confessed to having participated in a spate of robberies while working with his other friends in areas of Kabowa, Salaama Road, Najanankumbi and Busabala.

 

The suspect also admitted to stealing over 7 Television sets, several subwoofers and home theatres from different homes, the items he has been selling to one Muhammad Senkumba according to Owoyesigyire.

 

It is on record that Yiga who is currently out on bail on an offence he was charged with in 2019, has on several occasions been arrested and arraigned in courts of law on allegations of aggravated robbery using pangas and one case in 2018 was dismissed.
