The Kampala City Traders Association (KACITA) has vowed to close all businesses in Kampala that fail to comply with the Ministry of health guidelines against the spread of Ebola.

Last month Uganda reported an outbreak of the new Sudan Ebola virus disease, which has since surged, with lab-confirmed cases rising to 90, including 9 more in Kampala, the country’s capital and most populated area.

KACITA Spokesperson  Isa Ssekito during a press conference in Kampala on Thursday said that they have already set a taskforce which is going to enforce guidelines together with security officers and whoever is found without the required parameters to safeguard against Eblola his/her business will be closed forcefully.

Ssekito adds that on Saturday 29th October there are going to launch a general cleaning (Bulungi Bwansi) in Kampala starting in St. Balikuddembe Market and in all dirty places within Kampala as well as sensitizing traders on the need to have a clean city to stop Ebola and the likely lockdown.

Meanwhile KACITA Chairman Thadus Musoke said they are starting sensitization and awareness to the business community through mainstream media, using markets and arcades management committees to promote hygiene and control against any other diseases including Ebola in Kampala.

He says they are going to call a board meeting for the way forward on the fight against Ebola amongst the business community because the last lock down due to COVID-19 affected traders so much to the extent that many businesses closed and people lost capital which they don’t want to happen again.
