Transparency International Uganda has noted that delay in compensating of people who are to be relocated by government in its Oil pipe line construction is killing the hopes to justice implementation of the project.

The Oil Pipe line infrastructural development of East African Crude oil pipe line traveling through at least 20 districts in Uganda has delayed due to environmental impact reports, mapping and compensation but now all is done the construction is yet to start.

According to Transparency international land acquisitions have already affected communally owned, private and public land with thousands of communities affected.

Speaking to the media, the coordinator of people affected by Oil pipe line project Christopher Opio noted that communities have not yet received their compensation even when the survey and assessment was done two years ago which is a serious abuse of land laws and has left communities uncertain of how to survive.

Opio adds that another problem resulted from delay in compensation project developers placed cutoff date on community’s land that no development can take place and houses have been broken down, gardens left unattended among others.
