The Inspector General of police Martin Okoth Ochola has today apologized to the Bishop Emeritus of Masaka Rt. Rev. John Baptist Kagwa at his residence in Masaka and to the entire Catholic Church, over the disruptions caused during the thanksgiving ceremony of the Mbogo clan at the clan headquarters in Mugulu village, in Singo.

 

The IGP carried out a thorough review and evaluation of the incident, and acknowledges the operational lapse which led to the use of teargas that spread and impacted on the congregation and the public.

 

In the massage delivered by the chief Political Commissar AIGP Asan Kasingye Ochola extended further apologies in addition to the earlier ones made, regarding this regrettable incident.

 

He applauded the Bishop for his resilient and steadfast leadership during this disruptive incident by the territorial Police.

 

He further requested that all leaders (including religious leaders) should always involve the Police in programmes for better coordination during this Covid-19 pandemic to avoid risks of spreading the pandemic.

 

This comes as The State Minister for Tourism Godfrey Kiwanda Ssuubi has lashed out at the Police Force over their statement that government is fade up of apologizing and defending their ruthless actions.

 

Speaking to journalists at the Uganda Journalist Association (UJA) offices in Kawempe, Kiwanda has said that for long government has defended police and apologized for its actions before the public but it must ensure proficiency in operations than making reckless statements against the government.

 

Meanwhile, Kiwanda who is also the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Vice Chairperson Central Region disclosed that the party has today dispatched a team of executive members to reach out and convince all Independent parliamentary candidates to withdraw for the sake of the NRM flag bearers.
