The Inspector General of Police, John Martins Okoth Ochola has today handed over office after the expiry of his contract.

Ochola was appointed as the police chief in March, 2018, to replace Gen. Kale Kayihura who he was deputizing by then.

Fred Enanga, the Police Spokesperson while addressing the journalists at Naguru today noted that Ochola handed over the office to the Deputy Inspector General of Police Maj. Gen. Tumusiime Katsigazi in a closed door short ceremony that was attended by the Police Advisory Committee.

He says that after the event, the police now await President Yoweri Museveni to appoint Ochola’s replacement.

Whereas the President would have loved to retain him, sources privy to the matter say Ochola decided it is time to retire from the Force.

Police recently warned Senior Security Officers against lobbying for Ochola’s job.

Ochola made a service record of 36 years in the Uganda Police Force, having joined the institution on the 2nd January 1988. He has particularly served as a Deputy IGP, Director Special Duties, Director CID, Deputy Director CID, Commissioner Legal Department, Head Complaints desk, Head Prosecution and OC Entebbe Aviation Security.
