Over Shs30 Billion have been recovered from corrupt officers by the Inspectorate of Government.

 

This has been disclosed by the Inspector General of Government (IGG) Betty Olive NamisangoKamya ahead of the international Anti-corruption day scheduled for December 9th, 2023 indicating that out of the Sh30bn, at least Sh18.18bn has been recovered and returned to the consolidated fund.

 

She adds that a total of 119 public officials have been dismissed from service due to corruption, among them 14 reprimanded, 10 interdicted and various administrative actions have been undertaken on 39 others.

 

Kamya also adds that they have been able to investigate 27 high cases of grand and syndicate corruption allegations across government ministries.

 

She also adds that the office of the Auditor General has successfully completed 1,930 audits in 2022 and 1,787 financial and compliance audits, 3 IT audits, 102 engineering audits, 23 forensic investigations and special audits and 15 values for money.

 

Kamya also says that the State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SHACU) recovered over Shs2.9bn from the recent investigations into diversion of iron sheets meant for reform cattle rustling youth in Karamoja.

 

This year’s anti-corruption day will be driven under the theme “strengthening partnerships in war against corruption.”
