The Second Deputy Inspector General of Government (2nd D/IGG) Mariam Fauzat Wangadya wants parliament to consider giving autonomy to the inspectorate of government to sue and prosecute corrupt officials.

This was after she had appeared before the parliament appointments committee for approval of her four year second term in office.

Currently the inspectorate serves are under the Attorney General’s office where it has to be defended in courts of law in case they are carrying out any prosecution on corruption cases which according to them delays and ends up compromising their work.

Wangadya also noted the complaints from legislators over the online registration system of Assets and liabilities of public officials which they think is not compatible promising to improve and ease its operation.

Appearing before the Land Commission of Inquiry last week, the IGG Irene Mulyagonja indicated that some government officials are frustrating their services of curbing corrupt personnel.
