The Inspector General of Government – IGG has released a public notice reminding all public officers to declare their income, assets and liabilities as required under the leadership Code Act.

The leadership code amended Act 2021 says all public officers and political leaders have to declare their income, assets and liabilities to the inspectorate of government, and beginning this month 160 top leaders from the IGG’s will start their declarations as an example before they roll out to over 30 government agencies.

IGG Betty Kamya Turomwe while addressing the  press at the Uganda media centre in Kampala said ,a political leader and specified officers are required to declare their income, assets and liabilities within three months after getting into the elective position or appointed a public servant and there after every two years during the month of march.

Kamya adds that all those who are exiting their positions of leadership and public office six months after submitting their declaration are required to submit an exit declaration of their income, assets and liabilities.

Meanwhile, Kamya encouraged the public to report to the Inspectorate of Government any public officer who has what appears to be excessive wealth, not commensurate with his / her known sources of income and which they are not likely to declare as a way of ending corruption in Uganda.
