The examinations board of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants Uganda (ICPAU) has today released results of the May 2023 examinations results for three courses under the new syllabuses citing a decrease in performance in most of the disciplines.

The new syllabus will run for five years effective January 2023.

The results have indicated an average pass rate of 32 percent compared to 35.8% in December 2022 examinations.

Female candidates performed better than their male counterparts with 58.1% compared to 41.9%, yet in terms of age, 46.5% were between 25-29 years better than those in the age bracket of 18-24 years who made a 16.8% pass rate.

The examinations were conducted by the Public Accountants Examinations Board (PAEB) from seven examination centers; that are Arua, Fort Portal, Gulu, Kampala, Mbale, Mbarara, Mbale and Nkozi.

There were 6,067 candidates who attempted the May 2023 examinations compared to 5,279 in December 2022 representing an increment of 14.9%.

Speaking during the releases of these exams, the Vice Chairperson PAEB, Prof. Laura Aseru Orobia said that the board has changed the policy on recognizing top candidates by having the best candidate to have obtained at least 60% though the overall pass mark in each subject of Accounting Technicians Diploma (ATD), Certified Tax Advisor (CTA) and Certified Public Accountants (CPA) is 50%.

The President of ICPAU, CPA Constantine Othieno Mayende applauded the female candidates for outperforming the male and having biggest number to register and sat the papers.
