The Institute of Certified Public Accountants Uganda (ICPAU) has embarked on encouraging the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to apply for the Pro Bono services for them to acquire skills of preparing financial reports.

This is after registering a flat success in terms of financial reporting with the Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) reporting component among SMEs in the country.

The ICPAU Manager of Standards and Technical Support, Charles Lutimba while launching the 2023 Financial Reporting (FiRe) Awards in Kampala, says the Institute introduced this system to bridge the gap through training SMEs that can’t afford preparing financial reports which limits them from participating into FiRe Awards.

He says that a number of entities cannot produce reports yet their product has a report which is a little contribution to the FiRe Awards.

Lutimba says that the institute has a team of professionals ready to serve SMEs in helping them build their record keeping and financial reports.

CPA Stephen Ineget, the Chairman of the FiRE Awards Committee noted that this year’s ceremony seeks to promote the quality of corporate reporting in the country by recognizing and rewarding entities in the private, public and non-profit organization sectors based on their compliance with the international Financial reporting Standards and other emerging practices in corporate reporting like ESG reporting.

The 13th edition of the FiRe awards will be held on November 1, 2023 under the theme; Reporting as Brand Storytelling and more than 900 organizations are involved.
