The Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU) is concerned about the delay by the government to restore the Cooperative Societies in the country.

CPA David Bunnya Sserebe, the ICPAU Events Management Committee Chairman says they have on several occasions recommended the restoration of cooperative societies as per their mandate but the government hasn’t considered it.

This was during a press conference today about the forthcoming 11 Certified Public Accountants (CPA) Economic Forum scheduled from 19th – 21st July 2023 at the Imperial Resort Beach Hotel Entebbe under the theme; National Priorities for Socio – Economic Development.

Sserebe says that though there is a delay to restore the Cooperative Societies in the country but there is hope that with the implementation and promotion of SACCOs, it will be restored.

The ICPAU Director Education, John Bosco Ntagaare says the previous recommendations like stopping the establishment of new districts and constituencies, nationalization of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDA) among others from the CPA Economic Forum have been implemented and helpful to the country’s development.

However,  CPA Ambrose Mugisha, the ICPAU Head of Education and Training says this year’s CPA Economic Forum will discuss eight topics including reforms in education curriculum, empowering communities through agricultural value addition and role of security in nation building among others that will enable the government to formulate the next financial year budget.
