Kalungu West MP Joseph Gonzaga Ssewungu also a member sitting on parliaments’ Education Committee has threatened to oppose the National Adolescent Health Policy once it’s presented in Parliament.

The government through its ministry of Health is in the final stages of having The National Adolescents Health Policy tabled in Parliament to provide quality sexual Education and services to all adolescents including hard to reach, and those in Humanitarian and fragile settings.

The policy will also ensure that parents/caregivers talk to their adolescents without feeling shy as well as create a safe space for them to discuss what they want to share with the adolescents.

The policy will create safe spaces where parents/caregivers can easily communicate to adolescents about delaying sexual relations, avoiding smoking, drinking alcohol and taking drugs.

Ssewungu says he is not a kind of a teacher who can allow Adolescents be taught any sexual issues as it will morally spoil the children, thus urging government to leave this responsibility to senior teachers and senior women in schools, rather than teaching it also to children.
