The Kampala Audiology and Speech Center has called upon the government to help in publicizing their services in order to control the hearing loss problem in Uganda and Africa at large.

This comes at time when Uganda joins the international community in commemorating the World Hearing Day this Thursday under the theme; “To hear for life, listen with care”.

Officiating the national event at the Nakivuubo Settlement Secondary School in Kampala, the Assistant Commissioner for Inclusive Education in the Ministry of Education and Sports Dr. Sarah Ayesiga agreed with the Managing Director for Kampala Audiology and Speech Center, Phiona Kamya that hearing loss has increased in Uganda due to recklessness like over using headsets or keeping occupied in noisy places with loud music.

Kamya said 12% of adults are experiencing hearing loss and 10.2% of the children with this problem, 27 of them need urgent medical attention.

She adds that the country is still lacking Audiologists since audiology courses and training are mainly conducted from abroad at exorbitant fees that are a challenge to a poor country like Uganda.

Ayesiga however appreciated Kampala Audiology and Speech Center for their effort and treatment services offered to people with hearing illnesses.
