The Minister of Health Dr. Jane Ruth Acheng has today received at least 1000 medical oxygen cylinders with their accessories from the government of Denmark under the support of the World Health Organization –WHO.

 

These oxygen cylinders are worth 230,000 USD which is approximately to over 808 million shillings and are expected to be supplied to health facilities across the country.

 

Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng, the Health Minister while receiving the oxygen cylinders from the Danish Ambassador to Uganda H.E Nicolaj Petersen said that the country learnt a lesson during the Covid19 pandemic time where it experienced the cylinder shortage that led to the death of some Covid-19 patients last year.

 

She says that with that experience, Uganda vowed never to face such shortage of medical oxygen cylinders.

 

At the same handover ceremony, the Danish Ambassador Nicolaj Petersen promised on behalf of the government of Denmark to continue supporting Uganda’s health sector in addition to the 742000 doses of Covid19 vaccines donated in the last six months and other categories of support worth 13.4bnshs contributed in the past 12years.

 

The WHO Country Representative, Dr. Yona Tegegn Woldemariam, emphasized that Uganda should ensure that there is shortage of oxygen in the health system that could contribute to more deaths.
