Members of Parliament on the Parliamentary Budget Committee have been assured that what President Yoweri Museveni launched yesterday wasn’t a Covid-19 vaccine but rather a phase two medical test for a Covid-19 medicinal cure.

This has been revealed by the Chairperson of the Parliament’s Health Committee who is also a qualified doctor, Hon. Michael Bukenya while appearing before the committee to submit the Ministry of Health budget framework paper for the financial year 2021/2022 worth 3 trillion shillings but with a funding gap of 1 trillion compared to the allocated 2.7 trillion shillings.

Bukenya said that what was launched was a phase two testing medicine which could be used to cure Covid-19 once it passes the necessary procedures of approval internationally.

Meanwhile, expectant mothers are likely not to receive mama kits in the year 2021/2022 due to lack of funds.

This after Dr. Bukenya presented the Ministry of Health financial year budget for 2021/2022 report showing a funding gap to the National Medical Stores budget worth 55 billion which may not enable them to purchase mama kits for regional referral hospitals.

Bukenya further raised concerns on the crucial unfunded health priorities like TB drugs, 100 billion shillings needed to maintain and setup regional oxygen plants, 5.7 billion funding gap for the Uganda Blood Transfusion Services to buy special purpose vehicle to transport and store blood regionally.
