President Museveni has finally broken silence on the two actions that have become vices, alcoholism and betting promising that government is to enact Laws to regulate the hours on when people should be taken on.

While addressing a gathering at the National Labor day celebrations held in Pallisa district, Museveni said the two vices have become a major bottle necks to development with most of the youths wasting their time and future in drinking and betting.

Basing on the theme “Building the Nation through Good Work Ethics” Museveni vowed to arrest corrupt civil servants whom he says they hinder investor development who would create jobs for Ugandans.

Meanwhile, Worker unions who attended the function represented by the Chairperson of  National Organization of Free Trade Unions-Uganda (COFTU) Christopher Kahirita demanded for a minimum wage to end labour exploitation challenging a wage of 60,000/= many works are still earning.

Kahirita called for an independent labor ministry with a full Minister to cater for the workers needs reminding government never to fully liberalize the National Social Security Fund (NSSF)

143 persons have been awarded Rwenzori star medal which is mainly given to army officers, Golden Jubilee and Police medals under silver and Gold.

Meanwhile, the Uganda Catholic Secretariat through the Justice and Peace Department Executive Secretary Dr. Emmanuel Aliba suggests that employers should provide a decent life to the workers by at least paying them a just pay of 150,000 per month.

The Center for Health, Human Rights and Development (CEHURD) Board Chairman Professor Ben Twinomugisha urges government to increase the salaries of health workers for better quality services.

In an interview, the Human Rights Network for Journalists-Uganda (HRNJ-U) National Coordinator Robert Ssempala says together with the Uganda National Broadcasters, they are fighting to see that a journalist can earn a monthly pay of at least yet a free lancer gets retainer fee that could support in catering for health dues once he/she falls sick.
