Preparations for the 3rd June this year under the host of Hoima Diocese are almost in final stages with the last general meeting closed today at the Uganda Martyrs Shrine Namugongo.

The meeting chaired by the Secretary General Uganda Episcopal Conference Msgr John Baptist Kauta all the 10 committees which include; Liturgy, pilgrims, security, publicity, protocol, transport, catering, construction and decoration, health and finance all made their submissions although they will continue meeting until the 3rd June.

Fr. James Tebazinda the chairman pilgrims committee said 450 pilgrims from Lira have already reached Nakasongola on top of the 430 from Kabale who also started their journey yesterday. Foreign pilgrims as of now said to have confirmed their attendance from Tanzania, Zambia, Kenya, DR. Congo and Rwanda stand close to 3000 which number will increase.

Dr. Dan Kyamanywa the head of the health committee said they have partnered with the ministry of health , UPDF health unit, Red Cross and all the catholic health hospitals around Kampala and wakiso who will deploy ambulances, doctors and nurses with all the facilities to provide quality health services to pilgrims and Zia Angelina a catholic health center at Namugongo will be the their main center while major referrals will be taken to Kirudu and Kawempe for the government and Nsambya, Rubaga and Kisubi will be for the private hospitals.

The Kampala Metropolitan Police Commander Frank Mwesigwa confirmed their readiness to secure pilgrims under all conditions.

The bishop of Hoima Rt. Rev. Vincent Kirabo hailed the contribution of all members towards the success of the martyr’s day. The cost of the celebrations was budgeted at UGX 571 million but so far only UGX 43 millions are so far remaining.

This Saturday May 27th Radio Sapientia together with Hoima diocese and Uganda Episcopal Conference are organizing the martyrs walk that will start at 8am at Munyonyo upto Old Kampala where
