Today elections for the Speaker of Parliament and the deputy are taking place at Kololo ceremonial grounds.

The ruling National Resistance Movement has fronted the former deputy speaker Annet Anita Among to hold their flag and is facing the opposition candidate Hon. Asuman Basalirwa the Bugiri municipality MP.

On the position of the Deputy speaker the former NRM’s Chief Whip Thomas Tayebwa has been fronted while the opposition brought Kioga County MP Moses Okot Bitek in Amudat.

President Yoweri Museveni, Vice President Jessica Alupo, Prime Minister Robbina Nabbanja headed by the Chief Justice Alfonse Owinyi Dolo who is presiding over the election of the Speaker of Parliament.

The exercise has brought together sworn ‘enemies’ Bukedea Woman MP Anita Among and Mityana Municipality MP Francis Zaake in unexpected gesture when the two have been seen hugging each other almost to the ground.

Early this month, Zaake dragged Among to court seeking its declaration to, among others, overturn his controversial removal from the position of Commissioner of Parliament for allegedly insulting deputy Speaker Anita Among on social media.
