The Electoral Commission (EC) has released the programme for conducting the by-election of Member of Parliament for Oyam County North, Oyam District.

 

The Oyam North Parliamentary seat fell vacant following the death of the former MP also Ex- Minister of State for Labour Col (Rtd) Charles Okello Engola on 2nd May 2023.

 

According to the program, the exercise will commence with an update of the National Voters’ Register from today, Thursday 18th to Monday 22nd May 2023 at update stations in each of the 39 parishes and wards in Oyam County North Constituency.

 

Paul Bukenya, the EC Spokesperson notes that the display of the Voters’ Register will be conducted for a period of 10 days, that is, from Tuesday 30th May to Thursday 8th June, 2023, at all 167 polling stations in Oyam County North.

 

Bukenya says the Display of Parish Tribunal Recommendations for deletion from/or inclusion on the Voters Register will be conducted for six days, that is, from Thursday 8th to Tuesday 13th June 2023 at the respective Parish/Ward Headquarters.

 

The nomination of candidates will be conducted on Monday 19th and Tuesday 20th June, 2023 at the Office of the District Returning Officer, Oyam and the campaign meetings will be conducted for 13 days, that is, from Thursday 22nd June to Tuesday 4th July 2023 as per the program.

 

The EC publicist says polling and tallying of results for by-election of the Directly-elected Member of Parliament will be conducted on Thursday 6th July 2023, at all polling stations in Oyam County North Constituency, Oyam District.
