The East African Legislative Assembly -EALA candidate representing the Special Interest Group -SIG on an independent ticket, Ambrose Mulangira has threatened to petition the Constitutional Court against the government for failure to implement the Regional Treaty of following the four categories in these elections.

While addressing the reporters at the Uganda Journalists Association -UJA headquarters in Kawempe this morning, Mulangira said that government has only been considering two of the four categories identified in the Article 50 Subsection 1 of the Regional Treaty, which is discriminatory.

He mentions Political Parties and Gender as the only categories considered in Uganda, leaving the Special Interest Groups and Shades of Opinion unattended to or sometimes occupied by unqualified candidates.

However, Mulangira who is a person with hearing impairment but interpreted by Olivia Nakigozi Bulega, requests the government this time round to allow candidates qualifying for these positions to take up the responsibility.

Meanwhile, Mulangira promises to advocate for inclusion once he is elected among the 9 EALA representatives.

At least 28 candidates are contesting for 9 EALA positions in the elections that are scheduled on 29th of September 2022.
