The Minister of Health Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng has regretted the incident that presented her like holding a public rally without a face mask in Lira town over the weekend contrary to the presidential orders issued to control the spread of Covid-19.

Aceng says it has served as a lesson to her, now that she has entered the political arena but she has to devise means of meeting the electorate an idea she also sold to any other political contender to prepare early enough on the best way possible to manage the campaigns without flouting the guidelines set by the electoral commission amidst the existence of corona virus.

Aceng said this while interfacing with the parliamentary committee on health where she was responding to questions over the quality of government masks that are distributed free of charge and insisted never to apologise for the incident since there is nothing wrong she did, rather she was in line of duty of teaching the public on how to wear a face mask.

Meanwhile Aceng confirmed that Government has so far distributed least  6 million face masks to 20 districts.

Among them include Amuru, Kyotera, Arua, Guru, Lira, Mbarara, Soroti, Yumbe, Ntungamo, Masaka and others but some committee members like

Francis Mwijukye were concerned for the time taken to produce government face masks but Aceng said it was a challenge of insufficient capacity of the contracted factories to produce the materials in the set time.

Aceng said government to a decision to contract 60% of big factories to manufacture face masks and also 40% to women’s groups.

At the moment Uganda has recorded a total of 1,043 cases of Covid-19, however there are 198 active cases and 1,004 recoveries. Foreign truck drivers exited total to 1,397 people who tested positive of Covid-19.
