The Democratic Party (DP) has suggested to the Government to restrict the covert security officers from holding guns in public places in order to control the increasing gun violence in the country.

According to Ismail Kiirya, the Acting DP Spokesperson, gunmen have used it as an opportunity to pause as security officers and conduct their illegal missions of shooting Ugandans.

This follows the unfortunate tragedy involving the late Daniel Bbosa, a Buganda clan leader who was shot dead by three assailants last month.

Kiirya who is also the President of the Uganda Young Democrats (UYD)says that several law enforcement officers have made it a habit to carry firearms while in casual outfits which poses a threat to civilians who fail to identify the officers from criminals having illegal access to the weapons.

He adds that gunmen have continued to camouflage into non-uniformed security officers to attack and kill people without being identified.

Kiirya also urges police to continue detaining the suspect in the Bbosa shooting on suspicion of being connected to the previous shootings.
