The Deputy Speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa has advised the new Government Chief Whip Hamson Dennis Obua to respect the opposition in parliament if he is to succeed in his new appointment.

While handing over the office at parliament Tayebwa noted that during his time as the government chief whip, he used to engage the opposition on certain sensitive issues, which prevented ugly scenes in parliament.

He however cautioned him to always be calculative by being active to avoid his boss the president performing his duties and also advised him to let the ministers take the lead in the legislative agenda.

The Prime Minister Robina Nabbanja has tasked the incoming government chief whip to ensure that he coordinates the Members of Parliament to pass the 61 bills expected by the executive in this financial year.

Obua however, vowed not to compromise with his work to ensure that he delivers services to the people of Uganda.

He also warned the staff in his office to double their efforts in ensuring that they perform to the expectations.
