The Makindye Chief Magistrates Court has granted bail to event’s promoter Abbey Musinguzi aka Abitex together with his co-accused Elvis Jjuuko.

The two who are battling charges of negligence act causing death and injuries have been granted a cash bail of two million shillings and all their sureties have been bonded at 20 million non cash.

Earlier on Tuesday, Abitex and Jjuuko through their lawyer Erias Lukwago asked Grade One Magistrate Igga Adiru to be lenient and grant them bail on two major grounds one being that they had no capacity to interfere with state investigations because they  too are commiserating with the families of the deceased and two, they responded immediately with police when the stampede occurred.

It’s upon this that they have been granted bail and ordered to come back to court on the 7th February 2023 for mention of their case.

Prosecution alleges that the duo and others still at large on the 31st day of December 2022 and on 1st January 2023 at freedom city mall Namasuba in the Wakiso district in a manner so rash or negligent so as to endanger human life caused death of nine people a number that later rosé to 11 deaths and caused injuries to two people by closing other outlet from the venue gates leaving only one small gate which could not handle over 20,000 people to move out easily or safely.
