Hope of all the 32 NUP supporters who are battling charges of illegal possession of explosive devices to reunite with their families through a Court bail on Monday was lost after court granted bail to only four of them.

Hopes were high today for the relatives of the accused thinking their people were to be released on bail however it was a total blow when the chairman court martial Brigadier Freeman Mugabe awarded only temporary release to the four people.

The four who have been granted a cash bail of five hundred thousand shillings and their surieties bonded at Sh2 million noncash include Ronald Mayiga, Richard Nyombi, Kenneth Kamya and Shafik Ngobi.

In his ruling, Brigadier Mugabe said the four were the only ones with substantial surieties the remaining 28 had no substantial surieties thus the denial.

Accordingly, the four have been directed to report to this court twice a month every 14 days and not to exceed Kampala or Wakiso district.

George Musisi the counsel for the applicants hasn’t welcomed the ruling but says he will take on the Matter on Tuesday for further hearing as the state revealed that they will be bringing in a witness.

Rashid Ssegujja and 31 others are being charged for being found in illegal possession of 13 explosive devices, which are ordinarily the monopoly of the defense forces.

According to the prosecution, the suspects committed the offenses between November 2020 and May 2021 in Jinja, Mbale, Kireka, Nakulabye, Kawempe, Natete, and Kampala Central.
