Rt. Rev James Nasak, the Bishop of North Karamoja diocese of the church of Uganda has asked districts neighbouring Karamoja to forgive the Karamojong for the atrocities committed by cattle rustlers.

According to Rev. Nasak, the Karimojong can’t manage to stay without neighbours and appealed for forgiveness, saying it is the key to peace and development.

“Am not afraid to ask for forgiveness from our neighbours on behalf of the indiscipline of our children. Please forgive us as Karamojongs we can’t do without you the neighbours, “he said in his Easter message delivered today in Kotido district.

Rev. Nasak appealed to the Karimojong to stop disturbing the neighbouring districts and carrying out raids leading to the shading of innocent blood, saying this is the reason why Karamoja is

Hundreds of people from Katakwi and Kapelebyong districts have been displaced from their homes in the recent past because of the escalation of cattle rustling. As a result, the government has deployed along the borders of Karamoja and Teso districts to avoid further incursions by the rustlers.

Meanwhile Some peace committee Chairpersons in Karamoja like Mark Pedo, the chairman of the Regen peace committee in Kotido,, say that they don’t regret the shooting of Aped Longole, the LC III vice-chairperson of Napumpum sub-county in Kotido district who was killed on Friday by the joint security forces while leading a team of cattle rustlers on a raid in Kotido via Abim district.

Francis  Kiyonga, the former Amudat District Chairperson, said that cattle rustling will not end in Karamoja if the mindset of leaders doesn’t change.
