The Catholic Church in Uganda has extended Christmas wishes to all Ugandans for the year 2023 and blessings for 2024 focused on the importance of family unit for the growth and development of Uganda.

In the Christmas message read on behalf of the Catholic Bishop of Uganda by the Bishop Chairman Rt. Rev. Joseph Antony Zziwa say the African sense of family means neighbourliness, love and understanding of one another.

As Christians and all people of God celebrate the birth of Christ they need to reject ideologies and practices destructive to peace and common good of our families and the nation.

Bishop Zziwa pointed out selfishness, greed, corruption, injustices, envy, immorality and all forms of conflict, poverty and hunger in the society that it should be fought if people are to live in hormone.

He also noted with concern the wanton killing of innocent people in the war between Israelis and Palestinians which has led to destruction of religious historical sites.

He has prayed for peace from all people if the world is to live harmoniously.

Bishop Zziwa also noted that come next year 2024 the Catholic Church in Uganda will be celebrating 60 years since the cannonisation of the Uganda martyrs in 1964. He says preparations to this effect will be announced however each diocese will have special preparations.
