Out of the 47 child care institutions in Uganda run by the Catholic Church, 11 are in Northern Uganda, 15 in the central and 11 in the west of which 17 of them are purely babies and child homes.

The institutions offer rehabilitation, outreach centers and some are all inclusive caring for the children and educate them from the schools they started.

According to Rev. Sr. Alice Chachan, the Coordinator for Catholic Care of Children in Uganda (CCCU) says, it is the apostolate work of the church to run such homes in accordance of both international and local policies binding the care for vulnerable children.

Sr. Chachan says they have also developed the ARU Child Care Policy that is to guide their operations.

The policy was launched by the State Minister for Youth and Child Affairs Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi together with the Catholic Bishops in Uganda.
