The Uganda Episcopal Conference Health Commission has closed a two day Catholic health network Annual General Meeting AGM called to take account of the performance in a total of 294 Catholic health facilities spread around the country.

The AGM held at the Youth Sharing Center Nsambya coordinated by the Uganda Catholic Medical Bureau UCMB aimed among other things improving on advocacy, networking and lobby for better performance.

It has been graced by the Bishop Chairman of the UEC Health Commission Rt. Rev. Robert Muhiirwa of Fort portal diocese and experts in different fields like how to integrate a business model in a not for profit institution to managing ever increasing challenges according to the assistant executive secretary UCMB, Dr. Ronald Kasiyaba.

However Dr. Kasiyaba says despite the assistance in staff, remuneration and some equipment extended to the health facilities by government, the current economic hardship in the county makes it difficult for people to afford user fees that are levied to sustain operations in the catholic health institutions.

The secretary General of UCS Msrg John Baptist Kawuta says the Theme Harnessing Resource Mobilization efforts for universal Health Coverage, challenges Catholic Health Workers to think of better ways of improving services to save life at a minimum cost.

Bishop Muhiirwa emphasized the desire to have every health worker in the a Catholic health institution to prioritize serve above self for the people of God that can be achieved through ongoing education, working with other institutions like joint medical stores to fulfill the set standards in health service delivery.
