The Catholic Church in Uganda maintains that it will neither allow nor succumb to pressure from the so called human rights defenders to accept homosexuality.

Following the passing of the Anti-Homosexuality Bill 2023 by Parliament on March 21st, the Western World attacked the country for accepting to work against the protection of human rights and that Uganda risked losing funding.

Now, the Second Vicar General for Kampala Archdiocese, Msgr. Gerald Kalumba says all those working in the Catholic Church Offices must be alert and never compromise their services due  to fear of losing funding.

Msgr. Kalumba told the staff of the Uganda Catholic Secretariat Nsambya during the Lent Recollection Meeting that Managers, Executive Secretaries and the staff at the headquarters of the Catholic Bishops in this country must be champions of morality and the doctrine of the Church.

Msgr. Kalumba prayed for all leaders to have discernment of matters related to same sex relationship and take informed decisions that are void of emotions and selfish interests.

Recently, the Archbishop of Kampala Paul Ssemogerere indicated that the Catholic Bishops of Uganda will sit to analyze the Anti- Homosexuality Bill and give its official position on the matter.

On March 21, the Parliament in Uganda passed a new bill that seeks to crackdown on activities of homosexuality.

In the bill, persons who are found guilty of being homosexuals face life imprisonment and in certain cases death penalty.
