The Catholic Church in Uganda expects to come out with her firm position on the recently passed Anti- Homosexuality Bill, 2023.

This has been disclosed by the Archbishop of Kampala, Most Rev. Paul Ssemogerere during the celebrations to mark 10 years of Pope Francis in service in Kampala on Wednesday.

He says that the Catholic Bishops in Uganda are soon having a synod in which they are to analyze and discuss the bill which Parliament passed in March 2021.

His Grace Ssemogerere says the Church condemns homosexuality as sinful and should not be condoned by all followers, adding that the Catholic Church will not accept marrying people of the same gender since it is condemned in the Bible.

The Archbishop also clarified Pope Francis’s message on homosexuality for the vice being a sin and not a crime, saying  that the Pontiff was misunderstood yet he meant that Jesus came for sinners but not to take people as criminals.

However, he emphasizes that the church does not judge anybody but is open and welcomes anyone who seeks for God’s pardon.
