The Catholic Church has called for restraint from violence and brutal attacks to civilians, leaders and Journalists for the country remain peaceful.

The Archbishop of Kampala Dr. Cyprian Kizito Lwanga in his message read for him by the Chancellor Dr. Fr. Joseph Mary Ssebunya at Lubaga Cathedral in a special Mass to pray for all prisoners and members o parliament who were arrested and tortured at the end of the Arua municipality by-election campaigns.

Among other prayed for is the embattled Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi who is currently detained at Makindye Military Barracks awaiting his re-appearance in the Army Court Martial tomorrow August 23rd and Francis Zaake of Mityana Municipality who is still in critical health condition at Lubaga Hospital.

The Mass was called by the Uganda Performing Artistes through the Archbishop of Kampala over the national concern following the brutal incidents at the end of the campaigns in Arua on August 13, that left one Yasin Kawuma shot dead, several others injured, and one of President Museveni Car’s wind screen smashed.

The Katikiro of Buganda Charles Peter Mayiga on behalf of the Kingdom condemned the action reminding those in authority not to forget the tormenting moments the country suffered for years which retarded its prosperity

Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi’s wife Barbara Itungo Kyagulanyi prayed for release of her husband to access proper medical care.

A number of MPs have attended the mass who include; Florence Namayanja, Kato Lubwama, Paul Lutamaguzi, Ibrahim Kasozi, Ssempala Kigozi Ssajjalyabene and Johnson Muyanja Senyonga and Politicians line Sulaiman Kidandala, Samuel Lubega Mukaaku among others.

Meanwhile the Deputy Speaker of Parliament Jacob Oulanyah who was granted access to visit Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi at Makindye Military Barracks this morning revealed that Kyagulanyi had improved although he looked with a lot of pain.

However on the side of Hon Francis Zaake of Mityana Municipality who is at Lubaga Hospital, Oulanyah said he is suffering from post-traumatic stress and had a lot of pain due to injuries as he reported to parliament this afternoon.

Oulanyah who went with the Army Spokesperson Brig. Richard Karemire added that Dr. Brendah Anena and Dr. Andrew Ssekitoleko who are attending to MP Zaake revealed his medical condition in writing which report is to be scrutinized for purposes of how parliament can manage the situation but hastened to say that the actions of the security operatives would have been avoided.
