The Caritas Uganda has been challenged to embrace a saving culture to desist from depending on donor funds.

Fr. Hilary Muheezangango, the National Director of Caritas Uganda said that currently everybody in Uganda is in panic over the World Bank pronouncement of suspending Uganda loans yet it wouldn’t be a big deal if the country had saved its own funds.

Fr Muheezangango said this while representing the Bishop of Masaka Diocese Rt. Rev. Severus Jjumba who is also the president of Caritas Uganda, at the opening of a one day workshop ahead of Caritas Uganda Annual General Meeting (AGM) at Pope Memorial Hotel Ndeeba.

He adds that Caritas Uganda has the capacity to facilitate its operations and take care of the needy people once its saving culture is improved, and this will save the organization from failures that may arise once donors happen to withdraw their funding.

He explains that some donations come with conditions related to promotion of same-sex relationships which can easily be avoided by saving.

However, Fr Muheezangango appealed to all offices of Caritas in the 19 catholic dioceses of Uganda to embrace teamwork and collaboration that will help them achieve Socio-Economic Development to Ugandans and help the needy.

Caritas is the Social Pastoral arm of the Catholic Church and in Uganda through CARITAS the Church aims at creating a more just society by working with all people of different categories who share Caritas vision of spreading charity, social justice and integrated development.
