Cabinet has for the second time extended the period of the election of women councils with its committees together with the LCI and II elections for the period of 6 months starting 6th January 2024.

The term of office for women council representatives expired in August 2022 while for the LCI and II leaders elapsed in July 2023 which forced the government to extend their stay in office for a period of 6 months.

Now speaking to the press at the Uganda Media Centre, the Minister of State for ICT Godfrey Kabyanga noted that they decided as cabinet to extend these elections since they still have some administrative challenges yet they want to come out when they are fully ready.

He also appealed to Ugandans to stop pressurizing the government to organize these elections to wait until everything is sorted.

It should be noted that the Electoral Commission chaired by Justice Simon Byabakama requested close to Sh80bn to organize these elections.
