Government has set to come up with a policy that will see people giving money to street children be apprehended.

The Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development (MGLSD) Commissioner for Occupational Safety and Health David Atwooki Mugisa says government under Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) is developing a bylaw that will provide sections through which such people are charged.

According to UNICEF, Uganda is estimated to be having10, 000 street children who beg and live in filthy conditions in urban areas, particularly in the capital, Kampala.

Mugisa further says that they are investing against a group of people linked in the recruitment of children from their families especially Northern Uganda to the streets of Kampala and other areas.

However, he emphasizes that the Ministry together with KCCA and Police will continue withdrawing these children from streets and reunites them with their parents or keeps them at Kampiringisa.

He discourages giving money to street children saying the act encourages more to join the streets and challenges their operations of offloading them especially in the city center.
